FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Executive Coaching?
Executive Coaching is a thought partnership that allows you to explore how to get to your goals within the context of a structured and professional format grounded in research. Our sessions allow you to gain new insights about yourself and situations in order to assist you with your goals and challenges by building on your unique strengths. We are able to administer the Myers Briggs Part Two assessment as well as a Leadership Assessment, the CPI 260. Both of these tools are well respected and well researched and can provide insights into your strengths and preferences and are available to those that are interested as a starting point for the coaching engagement. During your session we’ll review the results, as well as the tools and techniques associated with growing your strengths and managing your stress responses. Why work with an Executive Coach?
Sometimes we have a sense of what we need to do to move forward in our careers, but we may lack confidence or knowledge that prevents us from doing so. Other times we’re interested in the next move, but aren’t sure which one to make: you may be struggling with a business decision that isn't working out, or attempting to navigate an organizational culture that’s not always what we would like it to be. Or maybe you’re just needing to find the courage to launch that new stage in your career - starting a new endeavor or working towards a promotion can feel uncertain and even the most confident among us can feel on unstable footing. Whatever your goals, our lead coach provides guidance based on experience and leadership education to help you to make a plan for where you want to go. Leadership can be lonely, but working with an Executive Coach gets you outside your head and challenges you to think of new ways of looking at your goals. Your coach will help you clarify your goals, and support you along the way to achieving them.
What is a Strengths Based Approach and how does it relate to Executive Coaching?
Broadly speaking, strengths based approaches orient towards looking at the capacities and orientations that are serving one well and building on these. From this lens, coaching can also explore where one's orientations and strengths may be getting in the way and how this can be managed in these contexts.
Are my sessions confidential?
We follow the code of ethics of the International Coaching Federation which calls for confidentiality in the coaching relationship. Because trust and vulnerability are so important in coaching, our discussions are always confidential. If a sponsor organization is funding the coaching for their employee, the coach, sponsor, and employee will meet in the beginning to establish these confidentiality boundaries and agree on a check in mechanism that feels comfortable with the sponsor and the employee. This usually would include a periodic check in with the employee and their employer on how the coaching is going and how they feel they are progressing.
How can I best prepare for my session?
To get the most out of a session, it will likely be helpful for you to give some thought to the topic of discussion in advance. That could be reviewing your assessment results in advance or thinking about your goals and what you would like to get out of the session or larger coaching engagement. The sessions are designed to help you in the way that works best for you, so if items come up in between sessions, jot them down for our next engagement. Reflecting on where you feel both stuck and energized can be helpful, as well as what is working or not working. Most importantly, showing up with an open mind and an orientation towards growth will make our sessions all the more valuable for you.
